Taste + See

I love how music can take you back to a beautiful memory. Today, the song O Taste and See was playing. It brought me right back to the first time I heard this song. It was my first time at Gateway Christian Fellowship in West Haven, CT in 2007. Brian and Candice Simmons (The Passion Translation lead translator) were the Pastors back then. As soon as I heard the lyrics I was completely undone by His goodness.

O Taste and see that the Lord is good
O Taste and see that the Lord is good
O Taste and see that the Lord is good to me
You have turned my mourning into dancing
Put off my rags and clothed me with gladness
And I will arise and I will praise you
I’ll sing and not be silent

O Lord my God I will give thanks to you forever
O Lord my God I will give thanks to you forever

I will live only for you
I will lift these hands up to you
I will dance before you
I will shout it I will shout it to you

Jenn Johnson, Bethel Music

As I looked around the church people were jumping around in a childlike freedom. Before that day I had never experienced what joy, freedom and childlikeness actually looked like. I never knew it was okay to have this much fun in church. My experience with Jesus was much different. I wanted what they had–I wanted to experience that joy, freedom and childlikeness. Although I am able to put language to it today, back then I had no clue what they were experiencing. I just wanted what they had!

Drink deeply of the pleasures of this God.[a]
Experience for yourself the joyous mercies he gives
to all who turn to hide themselves in him.

a. Psalm 34:8 Many translations read “Taste and see.” The Hebrew root word for “see” is taken from a word that means “to drink deeply.”

During that time I was extremely unhappy. I was a Christian, but I was not living in freedom. I was battling depression, but being in that atmosphere lifted the heaviness of life off of my shoulders.

Taste of His goodness; see how wonderful the Eternal truly is.
Anyone who puts trust in Him will be blessed and comforted.

Today, I rejoice as I thank Papa God that I am living in freedom in this area of my life. It all begun in 2007 with just a small spark, a desire. As I positioned my heart to receive freedom, change begin to happen in me without me trying to do it myself. I didn’t even know it was happening. LOL. I cannot even pinpoint exactly when it happened. I just know it happened.

I could not find Gateway Christian Fellowship’s version of this song, but here is another version of O Taste and See (Spontaneous) by UPPERROOM Dallas it is Heaven on earth!

Enjoy! 💛
